Dialectical Behavior Therapy & Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) are modalities in which counselors work with the clients to recognize thinking patterns that may be a deterrent to reaching the life the client wishes for themselves.

DBT is especially effective for people who have difficulty managing and regulating their emotions. DBT teaches the clients to understand and use tools such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation in the counseling sessions. The way we think affects the way we feel and vice versa. Both CBT and DBT help the client recognize both the thoughts and feelings associated with their life events.

Counselors work with the clients to address these thoughts and feelings and find healthy ways to overcome negative or harmful thinking patterns.
